The SECRET to Finishing off a Great Space

What is it?  What’s the secret?  What can I do to push this room past good and even beyond great?

We found the perfect shade of paint which pulls out the color from the flooring and compliments the window treatments.  We’ve even bought furniture that just about ties it all together, but it’s still missing something…

Accessories!

That magical missing ingredient your space is waiting for may just be in the form of a lamp, a mirror, or even an original piece of artwork that will act as the single focal point for the room and tie everything together.

Accessories really make or break a room and are worth special attention.  A fresh lamp can add a completely different dimension of light to a space and properly placed sconces will jump off of the wall with elegance and class.  Even table top accessories including pottery and nice greenery will go a long ways, but don’t stop there.

Too many homeowners make the mistake of trying to replicate our showroom in their house, but when you sit down to think about it; don’t you want your space to reflect you?

Add a personal touch.  From classic family books whose characters formed your children’s dreams to family photos and even memorabilia from vacations gone by, it’s important to surround yourself with a few nostalgic pieces that will bring you back to life’s great moments.

This is a topic that we love to talk about and often opens up a window of possibilities for our customers.  Take a few pieces by the store that have special meaning to you and let’s sit down and talk about how we can add that special touch to your home!

See you soon!

3 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Use a Rug Doctor

I understand that it’s tempting to pick up the ole Rug Doctor as your grabbing groceries for the big family gathering this weekend.  In your mind, it will alleviate the Johnny’s muddy shoe prints from yesterday’s “science experiment” and take care of the grape juice that Hannah just HAD to have.

While this may come as a shock, here are three very good reasons NOT to rent the Rug Doctor:
  1. The majority of carpet warranties require the carpet is professionally cleaned every 12-18 months—the Rug Doctor doesn’t qualify.
  2. The Rug Doctor doesn’t have the drying power needed to pick up all of the water after cleaning.  Most people don’t allow the carpet to fully dry and create more of a mess than they started with!
  3. Because of point 2, the moisture remaining in the carpet attracts dirt and oils.  The moisture can also cause the metal on the bottom of furniture to rust and leave stains.
Regular professional cleaning is just as important to your carpet as having a trained mechanic perform routine tune-ups on your car.  So sit back, relax, and allow the professionals to take care of the deep cleaning or contact me today for other ideas!

No Antiques? You're Missing Out

Visiting a museum can be fun but living in one is isn't so much fun.

However adding a family heirloom or flea market find to the mix in your home is great. If everything is too slick and matchy it can look like you got snagged by a good furniture salesman.

Adding something with some history makes a statement that you have lived an interesting life and accumulated things over time. Place an old trunk in front of a clean lined sofa or try a slightly worn and dinged up side table that can play nicely off a comfy recliner.

Clutter is out but collections can always be featured in groupings perhaps by color to settle them into your environment. Restraint may be the key. Have fun with it!  A touch of the unexpected makes life sweeter.
