What? You got that from pop bottles?

What would it look like if a carpet company could bring in more waste for PRODUCING new carpet than they created through the production process and sent back to the landfill?  Let me tell you about PET.

Imagine millions of 20 oz. plastic bottles—each bottle about nine inches tall—stacked end to end until the height is approximately the same as 6,926 Empire State Buildings…piled on top of each other!  That staggering number represents the number of bottles Mohawk recycles annually for polyethylene terephthalate carpet fiber—or PET as it’s known in the industry.

PET has a very soft feel to the fiber and does NOT hold stains.  If you think about this, it really makes a lot of sense.  When you polish off a bottle of soda on a hot summer day, you’re left with a clear plastic bottle—not one that’s stained from the soda.  PET carpets capitalize on this trait making the carpet friendly to both messy children and household pets.

Mohawk’s Everstrand is a great carpet for bedrooms, offices, and really anything aside from the highest traffic areas in the house.  As with many carpets, the key to keeping your PET carpet looking great for years to come is vacuum, vacuum, and vacuum some more.  This keeps the fibers strong and twisted for years of enjoyment.

If you’re a serious soda drinker and you’d like to do your part to lessen your environmental footprint, stop by the store today and see how we can put those leftover bottles to good use!
