Highlighting an arrangement!

We’ve had a hot couple of days, but it’s time to change your outlook because fall colors are making their way back to Your Designer Store.  We are excited to introduce a new arrangement that blends the sophisticated neutrals you love with the warm colors of fall! 

Do you have a coffee table or ottoman that needs something fresh to spruce up your space?  One great way to add new interest, or even introduce a new color, is to place a decorative tray filled with frames and vases for a new centerpiece.  On an ottoman, you can even leave your tray empty so you have a place to set your coffee mug while visiting with a friend or just reading a book! 

Want to set up a space like this in your home, but it’s not quite right in your house?  Use it as inspiration!  This arrangement gives an eclectic flow that draws interest to every piece.  We bounce the colors from the pillows on the sofa, to the area rug, to the accent chair, to the accessories that give this room a cohesive feel, yet it is not overwhelming.  This is because the natural tones in the rest of the furniture balance the sparks of color.

Besides color, this space has a variety of textures that give it a unique finish. Rugs are a great way to add color and texture to your room!

Rugs are a great way to add color, texture, and warmth to a space.  They are less expensive than changing the whole floor, but still make the large impact you are looking for.  You can even switch rugs out for different seasons or holidays to match your festive décor.  In a large, open space, rugs are great for designating the seating area of the room.  

Style is a main factor with rugs, but many people don’t consider their functionality as well.  When a room has wood or tile flooring, it might seem cold on your bare feet.  A rug can keep the warmth of carpet while complimenting the style of your wood or tile flooring. 

From traditional to modern, rugs determine the style of a room. They can vary from introducing new colors to the space, to blending in with your furniture and simply adding warmth to the floor.  Rugs are a fast and easy way to bring a new spark to your furniture!  Pillows are a great way to introduce the colors that you pulled from the rug to the rest of the room.  If you have low nap carpet – get a rug purely for style!

Accessories Complete a Room

Yes... accessories CAN complete a room!

We’ve been getting a lot of questions on how to make room look like it’s finished.  After a new project or renovation is complete, there is something that’s just… missing.  Can you relate?  The solution is accessories!  Accessories can have a functional purpose, be a punch of color, or even just be a space-filler that completes the room.

Many people tend to lean towards very neutral and timeless large pieces of furniture.  This is perfectly acceptable, but you will end up with a conservative room that doesn’t say much about your personality!  Accessories are what will take your room to the next level and leave a memorable impression on anyone who steps inside.  They can feel like an afterthought, or even insignificant, but accessories are the pieces that pull the whole room together.

How can you start to accessorize?  It can be a big challenge, mentally and financially, to completely redo all your accessories in a room.  Start with a lamp.  You may not think of a lamp as an accessory, but a new, bold lamp can make a statement and also be a functional piece of art!  The added lighting will increase the brightness and give the appearance of an updated space. 

 

If you don’t want to stop there, look at your largest wall, and find an inspiring piece of art to hang.  Then find smaller accessories that match your favorite colors from the wall art and play them around the room, like a rug, pillow, vase, or a throw! This adds interest to other areas of the room besides just the main focal points.
